Upcoming Trainings for Individuals
  1. January 16-17 OR August 27-28, 2018
    Introduction to DBT
Designed as a beginner and intermediate level course, this training is designed for those who are newer to DBT or who might be looking for refresher training in DBT. Perfect for direct care staff, therapists, case managers, administrators and medication managers, the training will focus on the theoretical underpinnings of the treatment and will also focus on DBT Skills Training. This training serves as a pre-requisite to attending the 5-Day Comprehensive DBT Training.
  2. December 12, 2017 OR May 17, 2018
    DBT Consultation Team Training
DBT assumes that effective treatment of people who are suicidal with BPD and other high risk impulse problems must pay as much attention to the therapist's and treatment provider's behavior as it does to the individuals they treat. Treating individuals with high risk behaviors (including suicidal and serious self-harm) can often be extremely stressful. If you're experiencing burnout, the role of a DBT consultation team and team members is to help you evaluate what is contributing to the problem. The team applies the same principals and procedures on each other the same way they do on their clients.
  3. February 5-6 OR September 27-28, 2018
Targeting, Case Formulation and Treament Planning
This training will teach attendees what behaviors are prioritized in treating, how to develop a case formulation and how to develop specific treatment plans to help treat the controlling variables that seem to give rise to and maintain the function of the client’s maladaptive behaviors. Individuals who attend this training should already have a basic knowledge of the theory behind DBT.
  4. November 27 - December 1, 2017 OR April 9-13, 2018
    Comprehensive DBT Training
Past trainees of this training have nicknamed it "DBT boot camp". It is a training that is specifically designed for clinicians who are responsible for implementing the Individual Therapy Mode of DBT. Since the Individual Therapy of DBT is the most complex and difficult Mode to learn to implement, the training ought to be intense, comprehensive in nature and highly experiential. The trainer will blend a mix of lecture, case examples, recordings of real sessions and role-plays to help trainees learn and disseminate DBT within their setting and with their clients. In order to attend the 5-Day Comprehensive, you must have completed the 2-Day Intro DBT Training.
  5. March 5-6 OR December 17-18, 2018
    Adolescent and Family DBT
Several Randomized Control Trials have proven DBT’s effectiveness in decreasing symptoms related to borderline personality disorder and several other studies have shown it to be effective with other populations and diagnoses, including substance dependence, eating disorders and mood disorders. Research is now suggesting DBT also can be effective in treating adolescents, likely because many adolescents struggle with symptoms including non-suicidal self-injury, suicide attempts, all-or-nothing thinking styles, impulsive behaviors, mood swings and intense and unstable interpersonal relationships.
  6. February 26-27 OR October 11-12, 2018
    DBT Skills Training: The Fundamentals
Do DBT Skills really matter in the delivery and effectiveness of DBT? It has long been thought of that the skills that are taught in DBT only matter most in the context of FULL DBT (i.e. when all modes are running concurrently; see Study #2 in Linehan’s original treatment manual). According to the latest component analysis study on DBT done by Linehan, Korslund, Harned, Gallop, et. al., 2015, that although FULL DBT is still the “gold standard” in the delivery of DBT, the benefit of skill training alone has a greater impact on client’s improvement than the early implementers originally thought. Perfect for therapists, DBT skills trainers, peer support specialists and front line staff.
